On June 15, 2026, the commissioning ceremony of the Ulaanbaatar Central Wastewater Treatment Plant of Mongolia was held. Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the event with Chief of Staff of the Office of the President of Mongolia Uilstuguldur Altankhuyag and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Batmunkh Battsetseg.

Wang Yi stated that during President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Mongolia in 2014, he announced support for Mongolia’s economic development, laying the foundation for the construction of the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant. As a project for people’s well-being and friendship, it carries the mandate of the leaders of both countries and the expectations of their peoples. From blueprint to reality, from groundbreaking to completion, it has become another testament to the longstanding mutual support between China and Mongolia.
Wang Yi stated that good neighbors wish each other well. China has consistently supported Mongolia’s efforts to expand its economy and improve the living standards of the people. Chinese workers have contributed to the construction of more than 850 projects across Mongolia since the 1950s. Entering the new century, from cross-border highways and port clearance to shantytown renovation and urban infrastructure, and from medical and educational cooperation to desertification control, both sides have remained committed to a people-centered approach, ensuring that bilateral cooperation delivers tangible benefits to the Mongolian people. China-Mongolia relations have become a model of friendly coexistence, shared development, and common prosperity among neighboring countries. China will continue to uphold the Principle of Amity, Sincerity, Mutual Benefit and Inclusiveness on neighborhood diplomacy, as well as the policy to foster an amicable, secure and prosperous neighborhood. China stands ready to work with Mongolia to carry forward the traditional friendship, write a new chapter of cooperation, create a better future for the peoples of both countries, and add new contemporary significance to China-Mongolia relations.

Uilstuguldur Altankhuyag delivered a speech on behalf of the President of Mongolia, and stated that the Ulaanbaatar Central Wastewater Treatment Plant is an important outcome of Mongolia-China cooperation and a concrete manifestation of the good-neighborly friendship between the two countries, bringing tangible benefits to the Mongolian people. He expressed sincere appreciation for China’s support for Mongolia’s economic and social development and voiced hope for the continued growth of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Ulaanbaatar Central Wastewater Treatment Plant is a flagship cooperative project between China and Mongolia. Constructed by Chinese enterprises using Chinese standards and technology, it is the largest and most advanced sewage treatment facility in Mongolia. The plant is expected to significantly improve local water quality, the environment, and residents’ quality of life.
